Heyho,
da ich gerade etwas ratlos bin, hier mal ne Frage an die Linux-Cracks
Ich versuch gerade mal ein Linux auf meiner RS/6000 44P zu booten. Die Kiste hat nen POWER3 (450MHz, 8MB L2), 1GB RAM, 2x 9GB SCSI und ne dicke IBM-Grafikkarte, die wohl als einziges wirklich ausschließlich unter AIX geht, bin aber eh per seriellem Terminal drauf. (die Bude sieht in etwa so aus: http://freenet-homepage.de/escimo/ibm/rs6000_2.jpg, werd bei Gelegenheit mal selbst paar pics machen, wo die Linux Kernelversion auf dem LED vorn angezeigt wird ;))
Im Moment ist AIX drauf, aber da seh ich nicht mehr als paar Welcome-Zeilen zu beginn des Boots, wird also wohl serielle Konsole deaktiviert haben
Okay, hab mir als Probanten mal Debian Lenny (PPC Netboot-CD) und Ubuntu 9.04 (PPC Alternate CD von den Ports) geholt, die sollten beide mit POWER3-CHRP-Kisten klarkommen (booten auch beide an von CD)
(Anfangs hatte ich ein paar Probleme, dass der bootloader keinen Speicher für die Ramdisk allozieren konnte, nvram wipen war die lösung. nur so fürs protokoll)
zuerst Debian, das bootet relativ normal, es flitzen ne menge messages über die Konsole, aber nachdem die beiden SCSI-Busse gesetzt wurden (danach müssten dann afaik die am SCSI hängenden Geräte enumeriert werden) hängt die Kiste und das CD liest ab und an etwas ratlos rum, ich kann das CD-Fach aber sogar öffnen (wird dann nur innerhalb der nächsten halben minute wieder eingefahren)
Bei Ubuntu ists bisschen seltsam, hatte eigentlich in erinnerung, dass es soweit gekommen ist, wie Debian (bis zum SCSI-Fehler). Allerdings ists mir nicht gelungen, das jetzt zu reproduzieren. Stattdessen hängt er schon früher, afaik bevor der Kernel tatsächlich wirklich startet. das klingt ganz so, als fehlt ihm nur I/O (oder er schreibts halt aufs falsche und nich auf den seriellen port), aber ich hab ja extra console=ttyS0 angegeben und gegen mangel an Videotreibern zusätzlich noch video=ofvideo gesetzt (istn workaround, den ich im Netz gefunden habe).
Gegen das Ubuntu-problem hab ich im Netz eigentlich nur gefunden, dass tatsächlich die falsche Konsole benutzt wird, aber was ist an console=ttyS0 nicht zu verstehen, das ist doch eindeutig?

(Anmerkung: das Debian hier ist ein genetbootetes kernel+initrd-image, habs aber auch schonmal direkt von CD gebootet, da wars gleich. hatte ehrlichgesagt gehofft, dass ich beim netbooten die probleme beim scsi umgehe, aber anscheinend nicht)
Glaub nich, dass hier jemand einschlägige Erfahrung mit Linux auf RS/6000s hat, aber da die Kiste CHRP hat und folglich OpenFirmware, haben die Mac-Leute vll etwas erfahrung. Oder vll weiß auch ein allgemeiner universal-geek bescheid, wo ich ansetzen könnte um herauszufinden, was überhaupt falsch ist
