ok, ich kann euch nicht überzeugen, mir geht das thema auch schon am ... vorbei, eins möchte ich jedoch noch sagen, kann dirk das mal ändern, die idee der "home edition" gabs damals noch nicht, es hieß noch bis in die frühe whistler phase personal:

Wenn man sich mal Neptune mal genau anguckt merkt man eig. schon das m$ wohl Neptune ziemlich ernst genommen hatte! Unglaublich aber wahr, aber selbst in der bulid 5111 sind einige hinweise dafür wie Neptune's RTM aussehen sollte:

Ziemlich in der mitte sieht man wie die Startseite des Activity Center aussehn soll und es gibt ja bei "Customize this page..." so kleine Miniaturbilder die schon das OEM Logo tragen und schon sehr nach RTM aussehen! Also da muss man doch ma nachdenken ob Neptune "nur öffentlich abgebrochen" wurde und vielleicht nun intern weiterentwickelt wird...
Ich find Neptune wäre richtig genial geworden wenns wenigstens den Beta Status erreicht hätte!

doch ob es noch weiterentwickelt wird bezweifle ich.
Die Ideen flossen einfach in XP ein das sieht man ja bei frühen Whislter Builds, da noch viele files aus Neptune kommen, wie der logon bildschirm und der bug report etc. Ev floss auch noch was in Longhorn ein, aber welchen sinn hätte MS Neptune jetzt noch weiter zu entwickeln?

Übrigens gibt es die Möglichkeit das Activity center unter Neptune zu aktivieren. Es ist nämlich vorhanden. Es ist besser als alle aus den ME Betas doch funktioniert es auch nicht richtig

ich weiß ich wollte nicht mehr posten, aber anscheinend besteht "bedarf".

es gibt 2 möglichkeiten, das activity center in der 5111 zu aktivieren, die eine ist per photoctr.inf patch während der installation, die andere ist start -> run

regsrv32 D:\i386\acccore.dll

dabei werden die daten des activity centers nach C:\windows\activity\ kopiert und man kann sie per mshta ausführen

And Neptune had a successor of its own planned, Odyssey, planned to be version 6.0.
Just read the Wikipedia articles, and the sources to Paul Thurrott's stuff they provide. They prove that quite quickly.

However, Norman is failing to say the whole truth, namely, that later, Neptune, and Odyssey were merged into one project, Neptune becoming the Home/Personal Edition, and Odyssey the Professional, and Server, counterpart.
